Privacy Policy
For the Italic voice memo, chat, and agent app. Effective September 24, 2026.
Italic, Inc. ("Italic," "we," or "us") operates the Italic app at app.italic.com and its companion apps. This policy covers those apps, not the separate Italic online store. It explains the information we process, including when you choose to connect a Google account.
Information you provide and we process
- Account and settings: your sign-in email, profile details, preferences, connected accounts, and session information.
- Recordings and conversations: voice recordings, transcripts, memo text, summaries, chat messages, attached photos, and drafts or actions you ask Italic to prepare. Synced memos and chat history, including photos attached to chats, can be stored with your account in our cloud database. Audio may remain on your device or browser; audio sent for transcription is processed for that request rather than retained as a synced audio library by our API.
- Technical information: device and browser information, diagnostic and usage records, and information needed to keep your account secure and the service working.
Google account connection
Connecting Google is optional. If you authorize it, Italic receives your Google account identifier and email address, the names, IDs, and time zones of calendars on which you can create events, and OAuth access and refresh tokens. We request Google sign-in identity, gmail.send, calendar.events, andcalendar.calendarlist.readonly permissions for the following user-facing functions:
- Identify and display the Google account you connected.
- Send an email from your Gmail account using recipients, subject, and body you provide or approve in Italic.
- Show calendars you can write to, so you can choose where to create an event.
- Create a Google Calendar event with the details you provide or approve in Italic.
Italic does not request access to read your Gmail inbox or existing email messages. Although the Calendar event permission can allow event access, the current app uses it to create events and does not retrieve existing event details. By default, Italic shows an action draft for your approval before sending or creating it. You can change a tool's settings to allow actions without another approval or turn the tool off. If you choose automatic actions, a matching recording or chat request can cause a send or event creation without a separate confirmation.
How we use and share information
We use your information to authenticate you, sync and display your content, transcribe and summarize recordings, answer your questions, prepare requested actions, operate integrations, prevent abuse, and provide support. To provide these features, we use cloud infrastructure such as Cloudflare and AI services including OpenAI and OpenRouter and the model providers it routes to. Audio submitted for transcription and relevant memo or chat content may be sent to those services. The agent may send your instructions, a relevant recording excerpt, and connected-account labels to an AI provider to prepare a draft. We request zero-data-retention routing and disabled data collection for agent model calls through OpenRouter, but we do not control every provider's independent practices.
When you approve an action, or permit it to run automatically, we send the email or event details to Google. Emails go to the recipients you specify, and calendar invitations may be visible to their invitees. We do not sell information obtained through Google APIs, use it for advertising or credit decisions, or use it to train generalized AI models. Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs is limited to providing the features described here and follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Storage, security, and retention
Account content is stored in account-scoped cloud storage. Google access and refresh tokens are encrypted at rest and handled by the Italic API, rather than exposed to the web app. We use reasonable safeguards, but no service is perfectly secure. We keep account content and connection information while needed to provide the app or until you remove it, disconnect, or delete your account. Some operational records may be kept for security, troubleshooting, legal obligations, or backup recovery. We do not promise a fixed deletion interval for every such record.
Your choices and deletion
You can change a connector's approval rule or disconnect a Google account in Settings. Disconnecting removes the stored connection and tokens, and Italic attempts to revoke the Google grant. You can also revoke access from your Google Account security settings. Deleting your Italic account in Settings removes synced app data and connections and attempts to revoke Google grants. Deletion does not undo emails already sent or events already created in Google, recipients' accounts, or other services. You may contact us about access, correction, or deletion requests.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the app changes. We will post the revised policy with a new effective date and provide additional notice or request consent where required before using Google data for a new purpose. Questions or privacy requests can be sent to technology@italic.com.
